Meet SANJUANA
Sanjuana is very proud of her culinary skills. For many years, she worked as a cook at local Mexican restaurants. Her pozole and tortillas de harina are the all-time favorite treat of her three sons.
Twelve years ago, Sanjuana overcame breast cancer. Little did she know she would be facing that same diagnosis again today. This time, not only is she fighting breast cancer, but colon cancer as well.
The support of her three sons and the rest of her family has been crucial for Sanjuana. They have provided moral support and stayed by her side every day. To help with the cost of treatment, her family has sold tamales to friends and strangers alike.
Assistance from the Renaissance Cancer Foundation has helped ease the financial burden. “Sometimes, people don’t realize the impact they make when they donate to the Foundation,” says Sanjuana. “Even if you feel your donation is small, it changes the lives of people like me.”
Family drives Sanjuana to keep her faith and spirits high. Now, she is ready to start her chemotherapy and radiation treatment at the DHR Health Advanced Care Center. But mostly, she is ready to attend her grandaughter’s quinceañera next year. We hope she will share her pictures with us!
