Meet MARTHA
Martha enjoyed life working beside her husband doing small home projects for people. Although being happy and always busy, she knew something was wrong. An increasingly painful lump on her breast was not normal.
The diagnosis was breast cancer.
Last December, Martha received assistance from the Renaissance Cancer Foundation to help cover some of the expenses of a surgery to remove the cancerous lump in her breast. She had already undergone chemotherapy treatment at the DHR Health Advanced Care Center to shrink the size of the tumor.
Now, Martha needed radiation therapy to reduce the risk of cancer returning in her breast. She applied and was approved for assistance from the Renaissance Cancer Foundation again. This time, for sixteen sessions of radiotherapy.
“I felt I was in a dark tunnel with no chance of getting out,” says Martha. “The Foundation has been the light at the end of that tunnel. I am forever grateful!”
A devoted husband, six children, and eight grandchildren are her fuel to fight cancer. That, and her wish to cook again. “I love to cook! My guisados and rice are the best!” claims Martha with bright eyes.
