Meet JAVIER
Javier did not expect for 2021 to be anything like it has been so far. Early this year, he visited his doctor for his annual check-up. A colonoscopy was amongst the screening tests. Unexpectedly, the pathology results from the colonoscopy indicated Javier was positive for rectal cancer.
By February, Javier underwent surgery to cut away the cancer cells. He is doing much better now, as his discomfort is almost gone.
“To know you have cancer is tough,” says Javier. Before his diagnosis, he used to cut and clean property lots. With his energy drained, Javier has been out of work for months. His family has organized fundraisers to help with the costs of surgery.
The next step is to start oncologic treatment at the DHR Health Advanced Care Center: thirty sessions of radiation and six months of chemotherapy. Our Renaissance Cancer Foundation has covered the cost of radiation therapy.
“I really thank the Foundation for helping me start treatment as soon as possible,” shares Javier. “Everyone that donates is very giving. Only people with a big heart help someone they don’t even know.”
Three children — all boys — and his wife know Javier can beat cancer. Javier is sure of it, too. He recuperated fully from heart surgery in 2013. Cancer is another hurdle he can overcome.
