Meet FRANCISCA
“I can’t wait to feel well enough to cook menudo and caldo de res,” says Francisca. Since her cancer diagnosis in March, her husband Juan Lorenzo has taken over the kitchen. Now, he cooks for her. Juan Lorenzo also helps around the house, and takes her to all her appointments.
Giving up all domestic responsibilities was difficult for Francisca, but not nearly as hard as coming to terms with a cancer diagnosis. Only one person in her family has had cancer. Years ago, her granddaughter beat cancer at only 18 years of age. “This disease does not discriminate,” expresses Francisca.
With financial assistance from the Renaissance Cancer Foundation, Francisca will soon begin radiation treatment at the DHR Health Advanced Care Center. She is in good spirits, hopeful, and grateful. “I hope everyone knows how much their donation makes an impact in a person’s life,” says Francisca. “It is very nice to know that so many people care and want to help.”
A strong family unit keeps Francisca fighting. She shares that her grandchildren encourage her with “Come one, ‘Guela’, you can do this!” And that she will.
We hope to see Francisca at home soon, cooking a delicious guisado for her family!
