Meet CONCEPCION
For more than twenty years, Concepción had been a crop harvest worker. Watermelons, cilantro, oranges, and onions – she has been in the field for every season since she was a teenager. Life was welcomingly routine.
Then, her sleeping changed. Her snoring was becoming increasingly louder. She also started gasping for air in her sleep. A sleeping disorder did not cause much concern. A drastic change in her voice, though, was worrisome.
Concepción had developed a cancerous tumor in her throat over the last three years. Her life was no longer routine after her cancer diagnosis.
Surgery to remove the tumor was scheduled shortly after. Radiation therapy at the DHR Health Advanced Care Center was urgently needed to prevent the cancerous cells from metastasizing.
Low on funds, Concepción applied for help from the Renaissance Cancer Foundation.
“Foundation supporters have allowed me to spend more time with my three children while I receive treatment,” says Concepción. “I am so grateful to not have to worry about how to pay, and just focus on healing.”
